Part 5: My Response to Asjad Bukhari’s Blog on Hoodbhoy Issue

No Religion Is More Secular Than Islam

My Response to Asjad Bukhari’s Blog on my article published in Express Blogs Part 5

I vividly remember that during the lunch, talking to Mr. Pervez HoodBhoy, I broke the ice Islam itself is a very secular religion. Let me make it clear that this is my opinion. Majority of right-wing Islamists, left-wing liberals, and seculars will never endorse me.
I remember myself quoting another verse: Lakum deenukum wa liya deen (Your way is yours, and my way is mine.)
Let me reiterate that this verse also supports individual freedom, and article 18 of Universal Declaration.
This verse is a part of a short chapter in Quran titled “The Unbelievers.” The full text says:
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.
Oh you who turn away
I do not worship what you worship,
nor do you worship what I worship.
And I will not worship what you worship,
Nor will you worship what I worship.
Your way is yours, and my way is mine.
Translated by Kabir Helminski
No need to say that the whole Surah supports human rights and individual freedom of belief.
