Quranic Verse Supporting Universal Declaration of Human Rights
My Response to Asjad Bukhari’s Blog on my article published in Express Blogs Part 4
Mr. Asjad Bukhari mentioned that I quoted Quranic versus.
As far as Quran is concerned, I and Asjad Bukhari both believe on it like 1.8 billion Muslims (latest Pew Research statistics)around the world.
I remember he asked a question after the end of the HoodBhoy talk, when we were leaving the meeting room for lunch(I don’t remember the question exactly but now I can figure out it was probably about his obsession with political Islam and heavily stereotyped image of me) and replied with a verse of Quran. “La Ikraha fid deen” (There is no compulsion in religion) i.e. you can’t force anyone to adopt a religion. I also endorse his blog statement that I blamed ignorant mullah in reply to some of the statements about religion. And it was during the first minute of our short meeting. Both of us were descending the stairs to join others for lunch.

I endorse Mr. Asjad Bukhari that in reply of his first question about some misunderstandings associated with Islam (I don’t remember the question exactly but now I can figure out it was probably about his obsession with political Islam and heavily stereotyped image of me), I blamed ignorant mullah in reply to some of the statements about religion. I also remember I replied one question with a verse of Quran. “La Ikraha fid deen” (There is no compulsion in religion). And it was during the first minute of our short meeting. Judging someone in such a short period and labeling him as a proponent of political Islam is a textbook case of stereotyping.
Being a proponent of individual freedom and human rights, I am strongly opposed to forcing individuals to accept particular beliefs and living style. According to the article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, “Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion,” This verse not only supports article 8 of Universal Declaration but also support secular ethics.
