MULTAN: An independence day celebration event transformed into a tragedy when the organizer was shot dead on stage.
According
to details by Express Tribune, the chairman of a local NGO &
Executive Director Volka Foods Mr. Saleem Rajab and two children were
shot dead by one of his former driver Nadeem Iqbal at an Independence
Day celebration event in Chak 384-WB near Basti Malook. The shooter
Iqbal committed suicide at his house, according to eye-witness.
Rajab,
45, had organised an Independence Day event for residents of the
village at an empty plot of land near his house. During the
celebrations, Rajab had walked up to the stage to deliver a speech when
Iqbal, 28, Rajab's former driver, shot him from behind.
Moments before the gruesome incident
According
to the police, the eye-witness stated that while people were chasing
Iqbal, he flew to his house and shot himself. Police arrived on the
resident's call and found Iqbal's dead body inside the house.
Bullets
hit Rajab and two children Jahanzeb, 11 and Irfan 12, on the stage.
Rajab and Jahanzeb died before any medical treatment while Irfan was
taken to the hospital. Doctors later said his condition is stable.
The
victim Saleem Rajab was said to be a popular and selfmade local leader
and the owner of Volka foods (Giggly & Cookania Biscuits). He had
fired the shooter Iqbal from the job a couple of months back.
