You Wanna Make Canada Your New Home? Why and Why not?

Tazeen Hasan commenting on why you should move to Canada and how? Canada is a country where the government and the constitution guarantee highest standards of democratic values and human rights. Last year, a Pakistani Muslim lady sue the government over the issue of taking citizenship oath in Niqab (Face covering) and the court gave verdict against the sitting government because the constitution allowed her to do that.

The rampant corruption, bad governance, lawlessness and Panama leaks of the third world are some of the major reasons to drive people moving to immigrant friendly countries like Canada. Donald Trump's racial and Islamophobic slurs are also forcing many Americans to find ways to move to Canada.

However, it takes a long time to get the permanent residence after you submit your application from your home country. Application processing time may vary between one to four years depending on your country of residence. Not all applications are approved. If your mother tongue is not English you have to pass IELTS to prove your language abilities. You may also opt for French language assessment exams if you are more comfortable with French.

Keep in mind, you have to submit a police clearance certificate and your application will be rejected if you possess a criminal record. And last but not the least you should have a hefty amount of money in your bank account to show that you can afford yourself and your family until you get the job after landing. If can follow all these steps and wait for unusually long processing times, then you should apply.

If your application is successful, you will get the Permanent residence on landing at the airport and you will become a PR holders. Now you are entitled to every right a Canadian possess except few.  You can work, study, get loans and education grants for your academic and professional developments (You do not have to return a grant like a loan) in some cases.

However, until you get the citizenship,  you can't vote, serve in Canadian armed forces,  and run for office. Remember, you can't be the Prime Minister of Canada if you are not a born Canadian. So if you are arriving n Canada with the intention of becoming the next Justin Trudeau, please stay there in Pakistan. You also have to file tax return each year even if you are not earning a single penny.

But hold on! Getting permanent residence does not guarantee Canadian citizenship. There is a specific set of  requirements to become a citizen. First, you need to spend 1460 days  (365 multiplied by 356) or four years in Canada to be eligible to apply for citizenship. You have to pass a citizenship Quiz and take an oath that you will be faithful to your country of residence.

But listen to me carefully. Arriving in Canada with the dreams that you are going to heaven is not wise. You should complete your homework about the weather, job and education opportunities.
White collar jobs for newcomers are relatively few. But if you are willing to pass through a rigorous career struggle including survival jobs and lengthy certification process sometimes including professional education, you are on the right track.

The government appealed in the Federal court, but the higher court not only rejected the appeal but ordered the concerned institution to take oath as early as possible and this made it possible for  Zunera Ishaq to cast vote in the coming election the same month.
